The only thing missing from Jamahal Hill rise in the UFC was a signature victory. In the main event of UFC Fight Night at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Hill stopped former title challenger Thiago Santos via TKO at 2:31 of the fourth round. Hill knocked Santos out with punches before finishing with a flurry on the ground. Santos attempted to defend on the mat, but Jamahal Hill landed elbows until the fight was stopped by referee Herb Dean.
Santos ranked No. 9 in the world at light heavyweight prior to the fight. Jamahal Hill was unranked before this victory, his third in a row, but that is likely to change soon.
I think a title shot would be nice,” Jamahal Hill said
In his postfight interview, Hill stated that the UFC should “keep pushing me up there.”
Santos came out looking for takedowns from the start, despite the fact that he is a decorated striker with 11 UFC knockouts, which ties him for fourth most in promotion history. But Jamahal Hill wields a lot of power, and Santos’ strategy paid off, as he landed a career-high five takedowns.
Santos’ problem turned out to be his gas tank. He had success with takedowns in the third round, but he was clearly tired by the fourth. Hill took advantage by pressing him in the fourth and landing big foot combinations. Santos threw hard back and landed a few punches, but he eventually succumbed to Hill’s speed and boxing.
